Since we were preparing for yesterday's Irish dance recital at a local nursing home and other asundry, I haven't posted here in a few days. I'll try to summarize.
Read-alouds:
Through the Looking Glass
My Path to Heaven
Ria and Gus and I attended a lecture by Archbishop Chaput on Catholics in the Public Square (which was excellent!).
The three of us also read and discussed (with our lit group) the Song of Roland.
Ria and Gus took the National Latin Exam on Friday. (Gus at the Introductory Level and Ria at Level 2).
Ria and Gus went to the "Underground Church" at the parish of some of our friends'. It's a sort of game in which large teams travel around in darkened rooms, try to identify "priests" (who entrust them with Bible verses) and bring them to the "church" without getting "arrested". You get points for bringing the verses successfully to their destination, and bonus points if you can recite them from memory. They really enjoyed it!
Kate, Bernie, Terri, Gus and Ria all performed in a little Irish dance and music recital for a local nursing home and visited with residents afterwards. It was a great experience for all!!!
That's all I can remember for now, though I know we squeezed in some Math and other basics somewhere in there! I was particularly amused on Friday, when we had way too much driving around to do when, after picking up a little chocolate to make sure my little ones didn't fall asleep too early (it was late afternoon by this point), I overheard the conversation from the back seat (Ria and Gus were at Underground Church, so I just had the four younger kids). All four of them were animatedly discussing (and teaching each other about) spelling and handwriting! I even heard Frank carefully say at one point: "C O W - That spells cow!"
